Tracing Zigzag Paths

Free printable · Pre-writing practice · For ages 2–5

Sharp turns, up and down — zigzags teach kids to stop, think, and change direction on purpose. Before letters come lines: following a path from the green dot to the golden dot teaches the hand to go where the eyes lead — the whole foundation of handwriting, disguised as a trip.

How to use this page

  1. First trip: trace the path with a finger, no pencil. Let the hand learn the route.
  2. Second trip: a thick crayon, slowly. Wobbling off the path is information, not failure.
  3. Too easy? Use a thinner pencil. Too hard? Go back one level — our straight lines page is the gentlest start.
